Triple T Bison isn't just a ranch. It's three Treadwells, one herd and a lot of early mornings. Here's what it's like to start something new as a family.
When Ken first called Bitterroot Bison, he said something that has stuck with all of us ever since. This wasn't just a business venture. It was a way to deepen family bonds and start a new chapter of adventure together.
A few years in, that's still exactly what it is.
Triple T Bison is Ken and his two sons, Kenny and Robby. The name says it plainly: three Treadwells.
[CONFIRM WITH FAMILY: a short line about each person's role on the ranch. For example, who handles the herd day to day, who keeps the books, who fixes the fences, and who takes the photos.]
Ken took the plunge. He made the call that started it all, and he brings decades of experience on this land.
Kenny [role on the ranch].
Robby [role on the ranch].
People sometimes assume this was Dad's dream and the sons came along for the ride. It was actually the other way around.
On a routine drive to Missoula, it was Kenny and Robby who spotted the Bitterroot Bison herd grazing by the highway and the "Bison for Sale" sign beside it. They're the ones who saw an opportunity and kept bringing it up until their dad agreed to take the plunge.
There's something special about a father trusting his sons with a big idea, and about sons wanting to build something with their father.
We'd love to tell you it's all sunsets and slow-motion bison. Some days it is. But a lot of it looks like:
early mornings checking on the herd before work
long conversations about fencing, water and pasture
figuring things out the first time, and sometimes the second and third time
disagreeing, talking it through and landing on a plan together
and every so often, standing at the fence at the end of the day and just watching the herd graze
Starting something from scratch as a family has a way of showing you what everybody's good at. It also shows you how much you can accomplish when everyone pulls in the same direction.
If you've looked through our photos, you've probably noticed some very small Treadwells in them. A toddler standing in the grass looking up at a bison. A little one walking out to the pasture holding a grown-up's hand.
That's a big part of why we're doing this. We want the kids in our family to grow up knowing where food comes from, how to care for animals and land, and what it means to build something that lasts.
In 2027, when our first bison meat is ready, it will carry our family's name. That matters to us. It means every decision we make, from how we treat the animals to how we care for the land, is something we're personally putting our name behind.
Family raised. Montana grown. It's not just a tagline. It's how we do things.
